Lower Body Lift

A lower body lift in Toronto is also known as belt lipectomy or a 360-body lift. That’s because it’s not just for lifting the buttocks or sculpting the abdomen. A belt lipectomy also reduces skin laxity all the way around your midsection.

Dramatic weight loss and aging can leave extra skin below the waist. Lower body lift surgery is designed to lift and tighten the buttocks while elevating thighs and smoothing the abdomen.

A belt lipectomy is a significant cosmetic surgery intervention. However, many people who undergo bariatric surgery understand that losing 100 pounds or more might mean that sagging skin is their trade-off. At Sovereign, we know that making major changes to your appearance can be somewhat overwhelming. We’ll be with you every step of the way, ensuring that you’re informed and confident about your plan, in control, and well cared for.

Our body-shaping plastic surgeons help men and women in Toronto remove sagging skin and become free of embarrassing hygiene issues, limited mobility, and clothing restrictions.

You’ve earned a great figure. Let’s reveal the real you! Sovereign Plastic Surgery welcomes you to a consultation.

Toronto’s Transformational Contouring

The skin’s ability to retract is impressive, but prolonged, significant stretching often creates excess that can’t bounce back, just like overstretched fabric. Surgical removal is often the only way to reduce stubborn, overhanging skin rolls

Men and women who have undergone weight loss surgery or intensive dieting programs usually have the problem of sagging skin to contend with. This can lead to poor self-esteem, self-consciousness, skin rashes, and difficulty staying as active as they’d like to.

Belt lipectomy surgery allows them to show off a new physique and enjoy the feeling of being slimmer.

Did you know that your skin carries weight? That’s why many body lift patients feel even lighter after surgery and find that physical activity and wearing new clothes are fun again.

How Is a Lower Body Lift Performed?

Your surgery will take place at the state-of-the-art Sovereign Plastic Surgery Clinic. We’re a fully accredited, Level 3 (out-of-hospital premises) OHP centre offering unparalleled luxury, safety, and discretion for your ideal experience.

Lower body lift surgery in Toronto is also called a belt lipectomy, because it will utilize a large incision around the waist, just like a belt.

Under general anaesthetic, your plastic surgeon will create a circumferential incision to remove the apron of excess skin and fat.

The skin on your buttocks and thighs will be pulled upward and secured with strong layers of sutures. The back and sides may be treated first before you are gently turned to address the abdominal area. Sutures, medical tape, and drains will be visible in the incision area, and a gauze dressing placed over.

Recovery & Results

Your Lower Body Lift Recovery

After your belt lipectomy, you’ll awake in our beautiful, fully equipped recovery area with our expert nurses. Having your procedure in our private surgical centre means that your surgeon nearby and comforting surroundings help make the experience positive.

You’ll have soft surgical drains in place to remove fluid and layered gauze padding over the incisions. A compression garment helps reduce swelling, supports tissues, and smooth contours.

After a time of monitoring, you can head home with a family member or nurse. It’s essential to have someone by your side for at least the first couple of days, because you’ll experience the sedative effects of the anaesthetic along with decreased mobility.

Before leaving, we’ll review the care of your drains, your incisions, bathing, medication, and other instructions for your comfort and safety.
We’ll advise you to walk slowly and carefully following your belt lipectomy surgery and every few hours during the first few days. This helps improve circulation and reduce some risks.

You must avoid heavy lifting and any aerobic activity, as those things can increase swelling, the risk of bleeding, and other problems. We recommend that you arrange for pet and childcare if needed because you must avoid lifting over 10 pounds.

Most people can start easing back into their physical activities after 4 to 6 weeks or as their surgeon clears them. You’ll need to take 2 to 3 weeks off, and you may prefer remote or modified work for an extended time.

Are You a Candidate for Lower Body Lift in Toronto?

After undergoing bariatric surgery or other methods of weight loss, many people experience frustration with skin that doesn’t bounce back.

Loose, wrinkled abdomens, thighs, and buttocks are a typical result of skin being dramatically stretched over a prolonged period.

BMI (body mass index) must be addressed before body lifting surgery. Fat loss is not the goal for a belt lipectomy, but skin removal can reduce your weight by 10 pounds or more.

The belt lipectomy procedure may be right for you if:
  • You have a healthy, balanced diet
  • You do not smoke
  • You have significant skin laxity around the waist and buttocks areas
  • You have maintained a stable weight for 6 months or more and don’t plan additional weight loss
  • You have had bariatric surgery, or dieting has led to significant weight loss
  • You have minimal excess fat in the abdomen, hip, buttocks, and thigh area
  • Your mobility and enjoyment of physical activity is restricted due to overhanging skin
  • Your skin folds cause painful chafing, infections, or rashes
Pros include:
  • Your contour sculpted to better reveal your weight loss achievements
  • Improved body confidence and wardrobe options
  • Freedom from uncomfortable excess skin that causes chafing, rashes, and infections
Cons include:
  • Lengthy recovery time due to significant incisions and tissue changes
  • The need for extra help at home with personal care and household activities (Private nursing care can be arranged if needed.)
  • A substantial scar that wraps the circumference of your lower body and is hidden under the waistline

Body Lift Surgery: Risks and Complications

As with all surgery, a belt lipectomy carries anaesthetic risks. The length of procedure time and the extent of the incisions will be discussed along with plans to mitigate those concerns.

Possible side effects from lower body lift surgery include:

  • Unexpected bleeding/hematoma
  • Swelling
  • Bruising/sensitivity
  • Altered sensation/temporary nerve pain
  • Skin numbness
  • Infection
  • Fluid accumulation (seroma)

Uncommon risks include blood clots, permanent nerve damage, delayed wound closure, and skin loss (necrosis).

Selecting a Royal College-certified plastic surgeon experienced in body-lifting procedures is the best way to see excellent outcomes.

We provide all surgical patients with direct phone numbers to reach our surgeons 24/7. Our safety protocols are above and beyond standards to ensure comfortable, worry-free, beautiful results.

Are you curious about lower body lift scars?

The incision for a belt lipectomy creates a permanent scar around the entire lower midsection. The scar is placed across the abdomen and lower back so that it’s hidden by most undergarments. However, your plastic surgeon will work with you to plan a custom placement that suits your preference and clothing style. We’ll let you know how to reduce the colour and texture of scars to ensure that they become as subtle as possible.
