Arm Lift

An arm lift in Toronto is the most effective way to slim your arm contour and streamline the upper body. The problem of “wings,” arm flab, and excess skin seems to appear out of nowhere after age 40. For some people, losing weight and working hard to stay fit is offset by the look of sagging arms.

Skin loses elasticity over time, and the skin on the posterior arm is thin to begin with. That means it’s prone to unwanted laxity. Short-sleeve tops and spaghetti straps mean baring the back of the arm for all to see. If you struggle with this cosmetic issue, you know that no amount of exercise or dieting will get rid of it.

There is a solution, however, that works. Brachioplasty is the medical term for arm lift surgery, and it’s an increasingly popular body-shaping treatment that tightens arms and banishes flab.

Here we’ll outline what brachioplasty involves, and we’ll answer questions to help you consider this ultimate arm-shaper.

Our contemporary surgical facility at 59 Hayden Street is luxurious, private, and comfortable. You’re in excellent hands with our body contouring cosmetic surgery specialists.

Arm lift in Toronto

Often, arm lifts in Toronto are combined with body-lifting procedures such as breast lift or thigh lift surgery. A mommy makeover procedure may include a tummy tuck, breast augmentation, and an arm lift to transform nearly head to toe.

When performed alone, brachioplasty takes roughly 2 hours and is performed in our state-of-the-art surgical facility under general anaesthetic. There are 2 primary types of arm lift: traditional/standard and extended.

Traditional methods place the incision on the underside of the arm. Unless the arms are raised, the incision line remains hidden, facing the body. The incision may run vertically from the armpit crease to the elbow, or partway.

An extended arm lift is designed to remove loose skin and fatty tissue on the arms and side of the chest. This is an approach typically reserved for patients who’ve lost significant weight.

Ultimately, your specific needs, desires, and body will help dictate the best approach for you, and your plastic surgeon will custom-tailor your surgical plan.

Who Is a Candidate for Brachioplasty?

If you’ve lost weight and have found that your skin sags in some areas, you could be dealing with excess upper arm skin that affects your wardrobe choices, your comfort, and your confidence. If you are at or close to your ideal body weight and in good health, you may be a great candidate for brachioplasty.

Keep in mind that some amount of skin sagging is reasonable for many people, and mild weight loss or toning can help. It’s essential to be examined in person and discuss your expectations with a qualified arm lift surgeon to determine whether the resulting scar will be worth it for you. Brachioplasty isn’t always recommended, but for the right candidate, it can make a powerful difference.

What Is Brachioplasty Recovery Like?

Arm lift recovery involves specific restrictions and considerations related to the use of your arms. Rest assured, we’ll help you plan the most convenient, safe healing process for optimal results.

The scars related to body-lifting procedures are usually the main concern for patients. Unfortunately, skin removal will always leave a scar. However, arm lift scars will be hidden as much as possible and are not usually noticed unless the arms are raised up and everted. We’ll advise you about incision care and help ensure that the incisions fade as inconspicuously as possible.

You’ll be able to return home as soon as you feel up to it the same day as surgery, with a friend or family member to assist you for the first 24 hours. Medication is prescribed for discomfort, and you’ll likely have soft compression sleeves on your arms. You’ll have steri strips (medical tape) over your incisions and gauze placed over that.

Sponge baths are permitted the day after arm lift surgery, but you’ll wait for your surgeon’s instructions before showering. Brachioplasty recovery time varies, but many people return to work within 1week, depending on their required activities. You may need extended help at home or private nursing to assist you with difficult-to-reach dressing changes, caring for pets and children, and regular errands.

Plan to take at least one week off work and a few weeks off from swimming, or working out at the gym.
