Gluteal Lift

Butt lift surgery is a surgical procedure that enhances the aesthetic appearance of a person’s bottom and thighs through the removal of excess skin.

Buttock Contouring

Butt lift Toronto surgery, also called a gluteoplasty, is easy to confuse with the Brazilian butt lift. Many men and women wish to add fullness, roundness, and shape to their lower bodies. They also seek to tone, tighten, and improve contours. If you’re ready to transform your lower half, you may not know where to begin. We can help.

The lower buttock lift surgery described here is not the same as fat transfer or buttock augmentation with fat grafting. Instead, it’s a surgical procedure that enhances the aesthetic appearance of a person’s bottom and thighs through the removal of excess skin.

It may be combined with other body lift procedures following bariatric surgery such as arm lifts, panniculectomy, or thigh lift surgery.

At Sovereign Plastic Surgery, our Royal College-certified plastic surgeons can plan your custom body-contouring procedure to reveal your best shape and renew confidence.

Following butt lift Toronto surgery, many patients report a self-esteem boost when they can finally exercise comfortably and fit into gym clothes or swimwear again. You’re invited to a no-obligation consultation to learn more about the benefits and your personal options.

Toronto Butt Lift Versus Fat Transfer (BBL)

People from all walks of life have heard of the trendy “Brazilian butt lift.” Also known as a BBL, the name is a bit of a misnomer, because it’s a procedure designed to add fat and volume to the bottom, increasing size and fullness.

It doesn’t technically lift or remove excess skin the way other body lift procedures do. Examples include brachioplasty (arm lift) or thighplasty (thigh lift). These are popular body-contouring surgeries that help people restore a smooth, toned shape after significant weight loss.

Like other body lift procedures, a butt lift surgery can contour the buttocks through the careful excision of sagging, baggy skin. This problem commonly develops with age, weight fluctuations, or substantial weight loss.

Adding fat to various body regions creates a firmer, rounder look, but in many cases, a gluteoplasty to remove skin will more specifically target aesthetic goals.

This option may be preferable if you lack the body fat required for fat transfer surgery.

If you have poor skin elasticity or damaged, sagging tissue, the lower buttock-lifting procedure, which smooths thighs and pulls tissue upward, may be best for you.

How Is a Buttock Lift Surgery Performed?

Gluteoplasty is performed differently than fat transfer to the buttocks. It’s not a buttock augmentation designed to add volume; instead, it removes excess skin and lifts and tightens tissue in the buttocks and thighs.

Your procedure will take place in the privacy and comfort of our contemporary, state-of-the-art surgical centre in downtown Toronto.

We have Level 3 OHP (out-of-hospital premises) accreditation and exceed the highest standards of safety to provide unparalleled care for our clients.

Here’s how your butt lift Toronto surgery works. Under general anaesthetic, your plastic surgeon will begin by mapping out the area of skin to remove on each side, then making an incision across the lower back from hip to hip. There are other techniques for skin removal in this region as well, depending on your specific, unique needs.

After removing excess at the surface, the skin edges are pulled up from buttocks and thighs to cover fatty tissue and create a round, firmer contour.

The incisions will be closed with a layered technique that helps reduce tension on your skin and keeps the scar line as thin as possible. You’ll have steri strips and a gauze dressing put in place before you’re taken to our recovery room.

Recovery & Considerations

What Can You Expect from Butt Lift Recovery?

A local anaesthetic is injected during butt lift Toronto surgery. Combined with a prescribed pain reliever, this keeps most patients comfortable and relaxed at home.

Expect to take at least 2 weeks off work. Depending on the nature of your job, you may request a modified workload or remote work after that.

You’ll experience some temporary swelling and skin sensitivity for the first few days. During that time, your surgeon will ask you to take medication as directed, keep pressure off of your buttocks (no sitting), and alternate walking and rest.

For the first 2 weeks of recovery, we’ll ask you to sleep and relax on your side or front. Light exercise can usually begin at 3 weeks, and more strenuous activity by 6 weeks.

The butt lift Toronto incision is extensive, which means that you need to take great care to keep the area clean and protected. You can sponge bath initially, then shower within a few days of surgery. However, submerging in a bath, swimming pool, or hot tub won’t be permitted until you have completely healed. The edges should be entirely closed by roughly 2 to 3 weeks.

Buttock Lift Surgery Risks and Considerations

Compared to a BBL, the scars for butt lift Toronto surgery are more significant and unavoidable. However, selecting a qualified, skilled surgeon and excellent follow-up care typically keep complication rates low.

There are risks inherent to anaesthetic and the possibility of unexpected bleeding, infection, or delayed wound closure.

A hematoma (blood collection) or seroma (fluid collection) may develop in the treatment area, requiring drainage.

Skin sensation changes, numbness, or tingling may occur while healing, and some sensation loss may persist.

Reoccurring skin laxity or other unfavourable results are possible. In rare cases, delayed wound closure may lead to tissue death (necrosis). It’s vital that patients avoid smoking and nicotine products before and after butt lift Toronto surgery to ensure optimal blood flow and wound closure.

The buttock lift scar is generally placed low enough that it can be hidden in underwear and swimwear. You can expect a reddish, raised appearance for a few months, but it should fade and flatten throughout the first year.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Butt Lift in Toronto?

Skin changes as we age, losing elasticity, thickness and tone. It’s the reason we begin to see wrinkles and sagging in the lower body, face and many other places. If you’ve developed problem areas due to age, you may qualify for a gluteal lift.

Commonly, patients who lose significant body weight through lifestyle changes, gastric bypass, or other procedures, benefit from this reshaper. The unfortunate result of prolonged skin stretching, even for young people, is that it can’t always rebound and resume a firm appearance.

A buttock lift may be combined with other body contouring procedures, such as buttock implants, for a makeover worthy result!

Consider a gluteal lift if:

  • You’ve maintained a healthy BMI (body mass index) for 12 months or more
  • You’ve lost significant weight, and your skin hasn’t retracted after a year
  • You have a healthy weight, but lack the firm contours you want
  • You don’t qualify for a BBL
  • You’re not sure which buttock sculpting treatment is best for you

Patients who are in good, general health and have realistic expectations for procedure outcomes make the best candidates.
